98% of residents are opposed to the destruction of greenbelt land on Alcester Road in Lickey End, Bradley's survey has found.
The local MP is opposed to Mac Mic Strategic Land Limited's plans to build up to 85 homes to be built on green belt land at Alcester Road.
To gather the views of residents, he sent a letter to every house in Lickey End to ensure the survey was as representative as possible.
Here are the results of the survey:
- 98% of respondents are opposed to the planning application.
- 100% of respondents said they believe there should be investment in local infrastructure first before more houses are built.
- 97% of respondents said they oppose the Government's 85% increase in Bromsgrove and the Village's housebuilding target.
- 100% of respondents agreed that the Government should build on brownfield land first before building on the greenbelt.
Whilst as the local MP Bradley does not have the power to stop planning applications, he firmly believes demonstrating public opposition to an unwanted planning application is important. He believes this is one of the reasons developers pulled their plans for the so-called Groveley Garden Village in our constituency.
Following the results of the survey, Bradley said:
"Our greenbelt is under attack like never before. The proposals for Alcester Road have been brought forward under the Government’s nonsensical ‘grey belt’ definition which has emboldened developers to build on greenbelt land.
"This is also happening because the Government has increased Bromsgrove and the Village's housebuilding target by 85%, but decreased Birmingham's target by 31%. This Government is, without doubt, placing the burden on rural Britain.
"There is no need to build on our precious greenbelt land when there is enough brownfield land available in England to build 1.41 million homes on. The Government could also bring long-term empty homes back into use and abolish Stamp Duty to free up the housing market."
