Bradley voted for common-sense immigration rules in the House of Commons last night (July 13th).
However, Conservative proposals to leave the ECHR and ban asylum claims from illegal entrants were rejected, proving Labour still will not take the serious action needed to restore control of our borders.
Incoming Prime Minister Andy Burnham backed Labour’s Immigration and Asylum Bill even though it does not do what is needed to stop illegal migration.
Burnham failed his first test instead of supporting strong, common-sense immigration rules as he backed the same weak consensus as Keir Starmer.
This was an early test of Burnham’s leadership - he failed. He can either keep hiding behind weak Labour legislation and left-wing backbenchers, or adopt the Conservatives' BORDERS plan, leave the ECHR and deport illegal arrivals and foreign criminals.
Bradley said:
"These common-sense immigration rules were rejected by Labour last night.
"Instead, they pushed through their weak Immigration and Asylum Bill even though it doesn’t do what’s needed to stop illegal migration.
"And nothing will change under incoming Prime Minister Andy Burnham. Why? Because instead of supporting the Conservatives' strong, common-sense immigration rules, he backed the same weak consensus as Keir Starmer."
