Bradley Thomas' thoughts on what's brewing in No.10

Bradley has shared his thoughts on the new Prime Minister and his Government.

Andy Burnham became Prime Minister – but only the Conservatives under Kemi Badenoch’s leadership have a plan for Britain.

Keir Starmer failed as Prime Minister because he did not have a plan. He left office with flat lining economic growth, inflation off target, unemployment higher, record taxes, declining business confidence, higher energy bills, a youth unemployment crisis, 50,000 criminals released early on our streets and 70,000 more illegal immigrants in our country.

Andy Burnham does not have a plan. Burnham has become Prime Minister without setting out a clear plan on any of the issues facing our country and refused calls to come to Parliament for questions from MPs. We do not know what he stands for.

But the problem is broader than who runs the Labour Party – whether its Starmer or Burnham in charge – its Labour that’s the problem because they want to raise taxes to fund more benefits. All Labour MPs want are higher taxes to pay for more welfare. As the Welfare Secretary himself said every meeting he had with Labour MPs was about who they could tax more to pay for more benefits. Britain cannot go on like this without becoming a welfare state with a country attached.

The Labour Party is divided, has the wrong priorities and will not get things done. Labour MPs are already split over who should form Andy Burnham’s top team and nearly 80 have signed a letter calling for Burnham to ditch critical reforms to immigration.

The Conservatives are focused on the real issues the country is facing because Britain needs a government with detailed plans on the cost of living, NHS, crime and immigration. That is why we have done the hard work developing detailed plans. Our detailed BORDERS plan sets out how we will leave the ECHR to end illegal immigration, and we will cut energy bills by £200 for families by abolishing expensive net zero levies.

Whilst Labour raise taxes and grow the state, the Conservatives will back business and control spending. Our five-point plan for an economic revolution will cut energy costs through our Cheap Power Plan, make hiring easier to create good jobs, cut taxes like Stamp Duty on family homes, cut red tape reversing Labour’s Unemployment Act and back businesses to get economic growth. We will do this responsibly, with our Golden Economic Rule, making savings from welfare to pay down our debts and grow the economy.

The Conservative Party is under new leadership. Under Kemi Badenoch we have a leader with backbone who will take the tough decisions govern with common sense, backed by a strong united Conservative team, we are doing the hard work to develop detailed, fully funded plans which we can put into action on day one to get Britain working again.
