“After yet another U-turn, the Government should use this moment to scrap entirely their plans to split Worcestershire in two.
“I’ve long said that two unitary authorities in the north and the south of the county will be unviable and will lock residents into higher council tax bills. We’ll essentially be paying more for less.
“The Government’s decision in July to split our county in two risks complexity and bureaucracy increasing for residents who are dependent on what will be cross-border services and at greater cost to the taxpayer.
“I’ve also been consistent in my belief that a North Worcestershire unitary authority opens the door to Bromsgrove and the Villages becoming an extension of Birmingham.
“Whilst the threat of two unitary authorities being imposed on us hasn’t gone away, I will use this opportunity to continue fighting for a One Worcestershire unitary authority which will be in the best interests of council taxpayers.”
