Following the announcement that the Slug and Lettuce on Bromsgrove High Street will be closing on June 20th, Bradley said:
“It’s a sad day when another High Street business announces its closing.
“My thoughts are with the Slug and Lettuce’s staff at what must be a very difficult time.
“Sadly, the closure of another hospitality business is not a surprise given the unbearable pressure this Government is placing on the entire industry.
“Business after business tells me that they’re being squeezed more and more under this Government. They're being burdened like never before by more taxes and more regulation. Business rates are up, taxes are up, there’s more red tape and businesses are facing sky-high energy bills.
"A typical pub across Bromsgrove and the Villages now pays around £2,500 a month in additional costs compared to two years ago.
"Despite working phenomenally hard, many businesses are left with no choice but to call it a day.
“I’m on the side of business, which is why in Parliament I’ve voted to abolish Business Rates for 250,000 retail, hospitality and leisure businesses.
“It’s time this Government got off the backs of businesses and got on their side.”
