Bradley has written to the new Housing Secretary to request a meeting to discuss the case for reducing Bromsgrove and the Village’s housebuilding target.
Following the resignation of Angela Rayner MP last Friday (September 5th), Steve Reed MP has been appointed Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government.
As part of his ongoing work to save the greenbelt, Bradley has written to him to discuss the case to reverse the planned 85% increase in Bromsgrove and the Village’s housing target and the 38% reduction in Birmingham’s housing target to ensure the burden is shared in a fair and proportionate way.
In his letter, Bradley informed the new Housing Secretary that Bromsgrove and the Villages is 89% greenbelt and 79% rural and made him aware that there is at least 140 hectares of brownfield land in Birmingham that could be built on.
The local MP has also launched a Parliamentary petition which has been signed by more than 4,500 people so far. When he presents the petition in the House of Commons in the autumn, the Government will be forced to justify the flawed formula used to calculate the local housing need for Bromsgrove and the Villages.
Bradley said:
“Once the greenbelt is gone, it's gone. Fighting to protect it is the right thing to do and I’m leaving no stone unturned in this mission.
“I want to make this case to the new Housing Secretary and to let him know that we don't want our precious greenbelt built on in the name of a flawed housing figure.
“The new Housing Secretary has an opportunity to admit that the Government has got this wrong and to reverse the 85% increase in our housebuilding target. I hope he accepts my meeting request so we can discuss this face-to-face.”
