Bradley has declared victory in the battle to stop the so-called Groveley Garden Village proposals.

After pressure from residents and Bradley, Bournville Village Trust have confirmed that “no proposals remain under consideration” and the proposals are “no longer proceeding.”

Ever since St Modwen Homes’ proposals first emerged for the garden village last year, Bradley has been leading the fight, working alongside local residents, to stop the plans and the “destruction” of the greenbelt.

The plan would have seen 1,450 homes built on land stretching south from Groveley Lane to Bittell Reservoir. The area would have covered 404 acres of greenbelt land – approximately double the size of Alvechurch village.

To fight back against these proposals, Bradley met with concerned residents and launched a survey to gather residents’ views on the plans. 92% of residents who responded to the survey were opposed to the garden village.

Bradley said:

“Groveley Garden Village would have decimated our precious greenbelt and expanded urban sprawl into the Worcestershire countryside.

“Working with residents we have stopped the destruction of our greenbelt in this part of our community. Thank you to everyone who made their voices heard.

“However, although this battle has been won, the fight continues to protect our precious greenbelt across Bromsgrove and the Villages following the Government’s 85% increase in our housebuilding target.

“I will continue to challenge the Government’s flawed housing formula used to calculate our housebuilding target, encourage development on brownfield sites and urge the Government to build in our cities where the need is most great.”
