Bradley has once again challenged the Government to justify their decision to increase Bromsgrove and the Village’s housing target by 85%.
Since last year, the local MP has been fighting to save the greenbelt.
He’s challenged the Government a number of times in the House of Commons to justify the decision they’ve made using a ‘flawed’ formula to calculate the figure for Bromsgrove and the Villages.
Bradley also launched a Parliamentary petition, which has been signed by more than 5,400 people, that demands that the planned 85% increase in the district’s housing target is reversed, in addition to the reversal of the more than 30% reduction in Birmingham’s housing target. This is to ensure the burden is shared in a fair and proportionate way and to only allow new houses to be built when the accompanying infrastructure is provided.
In the House of Commons last Thursday (October 23rd), Bradley once again challenged the Government, this time by questioning the new Leader of the House.
In his question, the local MP set the record straight on claims being made by other political parties. He reminded the House that the Liberal Democrats committed to building 380,000 houses per year – that’s 80,000 more than Labour have promised to build each year of this Parliament.
Bradley said:
“The Labour Government is planning to bulldoze over our greenbelt as a result of a flawed formula used to calculate our housing target. All I want is the Government to justify their decision and to explain why they’ve increased our target by 85%, but reduced Birmingham’s by more than 30%. Yet time and time again this Government can’t provide me with a straight answer.
“This is one of the biggest issues faces our constituency, and many parties are making promises to residents without telling them the full story.
“Take the Lib Dems and Reform. Neither of their manifestos had any mention of protecting the greenbelt - only the Conservative manifesto did.
“In fact, the Lib Dem manifesto committed them to building more houses than Labour, so if you think the threat facing our greenbelt is bad now, it would have been a lot worse if the Lib Dems had won.
“I on the other hand made a clear promise in My Plan for Bromsgrove and the Villages to fight to protect our greenbelt – and that’s exactly what I’m doing.”
Bradley's Parliamentary petition to save the greenbelt is still open and residents can sign it by clicking here.
